Empowering Freedom From Chains

Thanks so much for checking out this post to learn more about the rebrand and new direction of A Purpose and A Stitch! Your support and encouragement means the world to me!
When I started this blog back in January of 2018, I had a dream of growing the blog into something that could both support my dream to be a stay at home mom, AND generate extra income so that I could better fiscally support some of my favorite charities. Specifically charities aimed at eradicating human trafficking.
Fast forward a year and a half and I have just felt myself floundering. I had no true direction with my patterns and was feeling drained from the insane amount of work that goes into designing, crocheting, writing, photographing and marketing a craft blog. And all that for just enough money to cover the cost of keeping it going. I was not making a profit and was not excited about it any more.
A few months before our son was born at the end of 2018, my husband and I decided to take a HUGE MEGA leap of faith and for me to quit my job. That meant a loss of half of our income and on paper, there was absolutely no way we would be able to keep up with our monthly bills. But, I had this indescribable sense of peace about it, as though God was gently whispering, “let me worry about the money, this is what I want you to do”. So I did it. I quit my job to be at home with our kids.
The first goal I had hoped to achieve when starting this blog had been granted to me, although, not the way I would have wanted or imagined. I literally told my husband that I believed if we took the leap of faith for me to quit my job, God would miraculously grow the blog ten fold as a means to bless us for our obedience (anyone who is familiar with God’s sense of humor can start laughing now, LOL).
All this to say, that the leap of faith we took for me to quit my job did not result in an enormous surge in traffic to my blog overnight, but miraculous things have still been happening for us and I have learned so much contentment in God through it.
Despite that contentment, the strain of trying to make money through this blog was still weighing on me. The stress of trying to retrieve my “crojo” and enjoy doing this crochet blog was very very real.
So you may be wondering, then why keep the blog going? I know I’ve wondered that exact thing more than once, but right around this time, I had started making genuine friendships with other crochet bloggers and that was enough to keep me going. I still had a dream to see this blog grow into something bigger than I could have imagined, I just didn’t have the slightest idea on how to get there.
Through talking with one of those maker friends, I figured it out. Through her encouragement and insight she helped nudge me where I needed to go. To focus on what it was that really mattered to me. The original purpose of A Purpose and A Stitch. To help free the millions of men, women and children trapped in modern day slavery worldwide through my love of crochet. It just looks a little different now.
Rather than focusing on making money to support other organizations helping to eradicate modern day slavery, we are hoping to become one of those organizations helping to eradicate modern day slavery. We believe that through love, prayer, and crafting we CAN make a difference.
So thats exactly what we hope to do…
Today marks the launch of our rebrand. We will continue to provide free crochet patterns to those here for that, so the ads will not be going anywhere any time soon (sorry). But we will also be offering free educational posts on how you (specifically as a maker) can make a difference! We also hope to grow into so much more over the coming months, and I hope you’ll stick around to see all we have in store!
Can’t wait that long? Check out the Our Purpose page to see our 5-year plan.

Isaiah 43:19 – God does indeed reward faithfulness! Even when He makes a new path, we still have to walk it though. I am praying for you today, your new venture, and thanking Him for your faithfulness. Your children will be blessed by you (I am betting they already are!).
You are too kind, thank you for the sweet words and encouragement 😄
